A health check on the implementation and usage of a Business Objects system is recommended in a number of circumstances:
- When the actual usage has differed over time from a system's initial design
- When the user population increases in scope or actual usage
- When the development has been contracted to a number of third parties and a final check is required to ensure the system will function efficiently when delivered to the users
Approach
A health check package delivers a full written report on the system under inspection, its usage of product and other related technology features, and its ease of use and usage patterns, if discernible from the user community. Recommendations for changes or additions will also be included along with initial estimates for the costs and benefits.
Package Contents
This system health care package is time boxed at five days duration, which is sufficient to perform a detailed review of the majority of system implementations:
- The installation and configuration of Business Objects software
- Check connectivity to the data source(s)
- Check key reports to ensure they provide the required business data
- Examine the security model and repository structure
- Check the user response times to key queries and investigate any anomalies
- Potential enhancements to the system to improve ease of use and performance or maintainability
If changes are identified that can be made within the time period of the review, they can be implemented in-situ by the consultant, assuming the changes are agreed with the system users.
Duration
A health check review and documentation report is delivered on most systems in five working days. Systems that are very large in terms of scope and complexity require longer periods to perform detailed review and analysis.
